The Rules:
- Submissions must be emailed to toms.contests@gmail.com with a subject line of “Floater Writing Contest Submission”. The email body should start with the title of the submission followed immediately by the submission itself. After the submission, the author should provide his (or her) full name, address, preferred name for attribution and any link to be used in attribution. The author should include a statement that the submission is the author’s own work, that the author is of legal age to contract and that the author agrees to the terms of the contest.
- By submitting their work authors agree to provide the Floater website a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty free license to publish the work on the Floater website and in marketing materials, online and in print, including through syndication feeds.
- Submissions must be related to outdoor travel and recreation such as:
- Kayaking
- Rafting
- Camping
- Hiking
- Backpacking
- Diving (SCUBA,snorkeling)
Other content may be appropriate. Spectator sports related topics are not appropriate. All determinations as to appropriateness of content are at my sole discretion.
- Submissions may include photos, drawings, charts, maps, etc.
- Finalist submissions will be published as blog posts on the Floater website. The post will include a link to the author’s website, if provided, and will include a by-line with the name included by the author for attribution.
- Submissions chosen for posting will be posted no more than one per day starting October 1, 2006.The final submission will be posted March 30, 2006. Voting will begin October 1, 2006 and will last through October 1, 2007. Early submission will give a clear advantage.
- Readers will be invited to rate the posts and the finalist with the highest total reader rankings will win the first prize.
- Finalists are chosen solely at the discretion of the site owner. All judgments of the site owner are final and not subject to appeal. Submissions may be excluded based on:
- Readability – extremely poor grammar or spelling, extreme verbosity
- Poor taste
- Inappropriate content
- Excessive length or lack of length – submissions should generally be 250-1000 words
- If a site is excluded but might be suitable for exclusion with editing, it will be returned to the author with a note. Any decision to notify authors of acceptance or rejection will be on a time permitting basis and will be at the sole discretion of the site owner.
- Any submission may be offered a writers position at any time, before or after the end of the contest. The offer of a position does not indicate the winner of the contest prize.
- Site owner will not be responsible for any technical difficulty including hacking or multiple voting. Should technical difficulty negate the use of voting, the winner will be chosen by the site owner. There is no independent audit and all decisions of the site owner are final.
- Multiple submissions are allowed.
- Submissions not chosen as finalists may be published after the contest period, with attribution.
